Hi
We have a Windows 2000 network environment and we changed our DNS server address and I need to update the TCp/IP settings on each computer. Is there anyway to write a script in active directory to change the DNS settings.
I looked in Group policy but couldnt find any solution for it.

thanks

Do you use DHCP? That would be the best way of deploying most IP address changes.

Not sure if you can do it in AD, but you can script the netsh interface ip command with appropriate options to change the DNS server address.

is there any way we can write a script or something so we can run that command instead of doing for each computer at a time. I just have to change DNS only.

Yes you can script the netsh command (use netsh interface ip with appropriate options) as I stated above. Then, set this as the login script for your clients until you're sure each client has logged in at least once and run the script.

Why not just setup your AD server as a DNS server and input the proper forwarers for DNS queries. Then set all clients DNS to the address of your AD server and then from then on only need to change the forwarder on the server instead of all of the clients. Would be wise to have a backup server should the primary server fail.
