I have a website that is hosted on my University server with MySQL database. I want to setup phpmyadmin on this server so it is easier to manage the tables. I'm not quite sure about how to setup the config.inc.php file, and when I go to it gives error saying server is not responding or not properly configured.. any suggestions?

if I recall correctly, config.inc.php is well documented. Just read the comments after the settings (on the same line).

If the database is running on that same server, the host setting should be "localhost".

But note that if phpMyAdmin is not well protected by passwords or otherwise, anyone can manage your database.
