I would like to have my RS6000 read the time from my NT box so they can by sync'd for system updates. I know that older version of AIX didn't have the Network Time Protocol (NTP) included, but it could be obtained and installed. Does AIX 4.3.3 have the client on the install disks? How easy is it to set up?

Thanks in advance,

Matthew

the xntpd daemon is installed with the bos.net.tcp.client fileset.

I have my unix systems get their time from another unix system which gets its time from an outside system that get its time from the Naval Observatory. I don't know how you would set it up on the NT side.

The /etc/npt.conf file I have is very simple. Other, larger environments would probably have a more complicated conf file.

Here are the only lines in my ntp.conf file:

broadcastclient yes
driftfile /etc/ntp.drift
tracefile /etc/ntp.trace
server <fqdn name of unix server that gets the time from the outside server>

Then just start the daemon (startsrc -s xntpd). Edit /etc/rc.tcpip to have the daemon started automatically at boot time.

Did you ever figured this out - getting your AIX to sync with NT Server time?

I'm battling this same issue right now.
