There is a user site that is 3.5 hours one way drive that is having an echo issue on 2 phones. they have 2 phones in offices that are not being used.

they are all registered and have extension numbers.

Is there a way to use the set replacement code to re-register one extension as another?

for example. say 1000 has an echo but 1001 doesn't. I want 1001's phone to be now be extension 1000. I know the set replacement code works when the display says "enter pin" but what about if they are both already registered?

Hi Alex,
Login to the system and delete the MAC address of the phone you want to use as the replacement (1001).
Unplug the suspected faulty phone (1000).
Plug the replacement phone in where 1000 was.
Use the replacement pin code plus the extension number (1000).

What kind of phone is it?

You can't believe anything you read... unless of course it's this sentence.

I was hoping to avoid going on site. This site currently does not have remote access. They are 5312's

this situation is one of those which matches the request in the ' Mitel 3300 - Pet Peeves, DCR's, and Wish lists' thread, for a way to revert a phone to 'USE Super key TO SEND PIN' from the phone itself (eg the equivalent of clearing the MAC address through the web interface).

This is maybe something you'd want to have the ability to enable/disable in class of service (to stop people deliberately breaking working phones in a public environment)

Before you go to site, I highly doubt a new set will clear up the echo. The echo is produced at the IP/TDM hybrid, not in the set. Get more information from them before you go. When do they hear echo? Start of the call, throughout the call, intermittent through the call? Who are they calling when it happens, IP trunks? TDM trunks? ONS sets, DNIC sets? If those two phones call each other (IP-IP call), is there echo?

If the answer is 'no' to the last one, then it isn't the phones. Answers to the others will narrow down the search.

Thanks for the help. I will ask them some more questions. Its a cxi with 4 loop start trunks and not yet networked to other sites. They had an echo issue before but the line measurement tool cleared it up on all but two sets.

What type of controller and what type of trunks?
Irwin's points are well taken.
Also what software version is the controller on?
If on analog trunks, has anyone run the loop start measurement tool?
Can you run logmein or something with some help from the customer?

What were the results of the line measurement tool? Keep in mind just because you run the tool doesn't mean it fixes everything.

If only two sets are experiencing it, I would next look at they way that they are calling/receiving calls. Trunk selection, etc. They might only be using one of the 4 trunks that isn't well matched.

Or, it the people themselves. You should always run the LMT first before you let them use the system. Once people hear any echo, they are more sensitive to it, so it may not be the sets but just the people that use those sets are now conditioned to listen for it.

Do those 2 users have headsets?
Some of them can cause this...
