hi
CAn i use cp command to copy a set of commands
from /usr/bin directory to another directory (/usr/rbin)
so that i can give a restricted set of commands to my users.
or i have to create links for that purpose.
Thanks in advance.

nope... you can copy the commands, but remember to re-copy them when you update your system!

hi
thnkx for your response.
By updating the system you mean AIX o/s upgrading?????
Also permissions for the copied commands should be maintained? i.e should i use cp with -p flag?

I don't normally disagree with Elgis but....

If you create links to the commands it would have two advantages:

1: It would use less diskspace

2: There would be no need to re-copy commands when you upgrade or patch your version of AiX.

I don´t wrote what I was thinking... I wanted to say *Nope* to cp and *yep* to ln.

But... when I´m thinking about security issues I ALWAYS try to isolate everything, then I tend to copy files and not to link them!
