I have been asked to set some print code for any item (Word or Excel) that has been placed into a particular directory. The desires are that when an item is printed from this directory the word "OBSOLETE" be printed over the document. This is requested so that other users can't display these documents as current. There are only 4 people in the company that can write to this directory, so there is an opportunity to give these instructions per document saved in the directory.

Does this make sense to anyone??? I think there is probably an answer to the OBSOLETE problem, either directory-wize or document-wize.

Please feel free to offer ideas or alternatives to the problem. We are open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

You have to put your code into a Word or Excel File. Excel has a BeforePrint that could be useful, but you would need to put code in all the files.

Your best bet is to have a single, separate macro to open the file, print it, and then overwrite "OBSOLETE".

Can I add a macro into a workbook from another workbook? I guess i could have the user save the workbook with my macro and have the macro place the BeforePrint instructions.

What about that?

Thanks for your help

I'm having trouble finding information about this BeforePrint function. Any ideas?

Probably not looking at the right place.

Thanks,
