Set Destination to Disk question

Good morning,

I'd like to limit the users in my environment to Schedule reports to the Default Output directory only. The only option that I've found within Seagate Info is the "Set Destination to Disk" function at the Folder/Object level. I can't disable this option, however, because the users wouldn't be able to write to the default location either.

I want to limit the users because they are creating a high number of shared directories (with write privileges) by scheduling reports to their hard drives. This is considered a security risk, especially in regards to some of the more recent viruses that propogate across shared network connections (Funlove, for example).

I know that I can accomplish this goal outside of Seagate Info (network security Vs. application security), however, I'd like to know if there is any way possible to do this from within Seagate Info. I would consider this to be my first option, if possible.

Any ideas?

Hi Rinok,

Unfortunately this is not possible in Info. As you mentioned, either the user has the right to set the destination to disk or not. You cannot restrict "WHERE" on the disk.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for responding Nuffsaid. I had come to this conclusion as well.

The other option is to turn off the ability to create drive mappings from the APS server, but this isn't accomplished very easily within Windows NT.

Frankly, I'm surprised that this issue hasn't come up before. It seems to present a fairly big security hole.

Yeah I have the same problem restricting users from creating output wherever they want. Hopefully Seagate (Crystal ) will make some modifacation to restrict this.

maybe seagate think that the "secure reports" option is enough to plug this potential security problem?? Icytrue
