My company just updated from Crystal 7 to 8.5
Some of the new features are good, but I am
having trouble with the set database feature.
It was so easy in 7.0 Now I have to go thru
a lot of confusing (to me) menus and end up
with some sort of mapping window that I do not
understand. When I close that window, I get a
message that I can not access some files and the
report will not run.
Is there some kind of setup I have to do,
hopefully only once, that will make it easy to
run the same report on two different sets of
the same files?
The database we are using is Dataflex.
Thanks in advance.

Verify Database if what you are talking about I believe. Thisexists so Crystal can read any database changes. If you are going through a mapiing routine this is because the database field names have changed. I would be willing to bet you updated your dataflex application as well correct?

If this is the case what you are going through is caused by dataflex not Crystal. However this is a one time thing if you have just updated databases.

Sorry for the sloppy wording.
I appear to have rushed into merging
the "set location" choice
under the "Database Menu"
with the "Database" menu itself.

Please reconsider my request for help
in dealing with "set location".

We have not made any significant changes
to the dataflex database since December.

Alincon,

I stand by my original post. How long has it been since you verified your database? I am still willing to bet that there have been database changes since the last time you verified your database.

Having said that, lets not get into an argument about this. Go ahead and go through the mapping process and see what happens on subsequent executions of your report.

But it is the mapping process that I do
not know how to do. That is why I wrote
for help in the first place.
Set location was so easy in 7.0, but seems very hard
to me in 8.5. I must be missing something.

You never answered my question: how long has it been since you verified your database in CR V7?

Do you still have v7.0 crystal? Go to that version and verify your database. I will bet good money that you still have to go through the mapping process. This process in virually unchanged from V7 to V8.5

I'll bet more money this is a database issue, not a crystal issue. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
