When I type set at the prompt I get a listing of some of my user environment settings. Where does this command get it's information. Is it echoing one file or multiple files?

I'd like to modify some environment settings permanently.

System wide environment is set in the /etc/environment file, edit with caution.

This file is read first, the $HOME/.profile afterwards. IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries
