I have followed Access' help word for word in trying to set an auto number but it is not working.

My table with the autonumber does not have any entries, and has relationships on some other tables that do have entries but the field that the autonumber is linked with is either empty or has a zero in it.

Ideas? I'm sure out of them!

What do you mean be "set an auto number"? Do you want to plant a specific number into the autonumber field? Do you want to create an autonumber field in a table? Are you getting an error message?

Hi Duane. I am attempting to plant a specific number in an autonumber field. The autonumber field in the table is already set.

Not getting any error messages. Just the new record in the table is not the number I would like it to be.

Fixed it! I compacted/repaired the database, then used the directions in the help menu to set the autonumber.

And that worked.
