I've owned this printer for 5 years (?)...single-person office...I clean toner from time to time, but have never had it "serviced." Seems like somewhat excessive toner dust whenever I open it now.

It's now skipping a color from time to time -- never used to do that. Should I just clean the sensor and wipe with the toner cloth, or should I have someone do a 100,000 mile tune-up?

Thanks.

Indeed! These are notorious for sensors and clutches that get gummed up with toner. A lot of them are hidden, so a major tear-down is very necessary! Dont let anyone just blow it out with a compressor, as it will not get into places thouroughly. I dismantle and clean the entire carousel, drives, and clutches, as well as all PCB's.
Your page count is not that much,as these units if kept up, will print a long time.Invest in a proper refurbishment
and maybe replace a Rotary drive assy., P\U "D" rollers, ITB drawer, and remember to empty the waste tray!
