On Windows NT 4.0 Running SP 6a, Office 2000, & Norton Antivirus 7.5 Corp. Windows will not shut down or restart without an "End Task" for Explorer or My Computer if a window is open. It happens on PCs with any combo of SR1, SR2, and sometimes IE 6.0 with no Office SR.

I can do this: Log on, double-click My Computer, click Start >> Shut Down and it will hang with "Unable to end task...." on My Computer. Same thing for Explorer. If you view Task Manager >> Programs, My Computer or Explorer is all that shows. If you close the open window, shutdown/reboot works. I am begining to think this is related to Norton Antivirus....it is one thing that all of the machines seem to have in common. I am going to uninstall NAV from a test machine. However, in the meantime....if you have any suggestions.....

After removing NAV, the problem went away. I guess this thread is in the wrong forum...sorry
