Service Randomly Stopping

Hi ALl,
I have a problem with a service stopping randomly on a W2K server. It is a bespoke application that we run for our warehouse, is runs as a service rather than an application. The service has no dependancies so I'm not sure what is causing it to stop. It auto restarts fine. Is there anything within Windows 2000 server that can cause a server to stop on its own or should I be looking to the developer of the appication/service??
