Tom,

I currently upgraded my computer to Service Pack 2 and after it restarted it no longer recognized my DVD/CD-Rom (D and my CD-Burner (E. It still recognizes my jump drive (F and Floppy (A. I was wondering if you knew where any patches or ways to get the computer to recognize the drives again.

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturers website?

What happend is that the UPPER and LOWER FILTERS mostlikely got messed up....

Delete the followging key in your registry
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}"

If acess is denied it is sufficient to just reset the values to "0".

then exit the RegEdit and go to the 'device manager' and uninstall all CD-ROM's, DVD's, and CD-RW's... REBOOT... let windows reinstall the drives...

@ THELAD - Optical Drives have NOT NEEDED DRIVERS since W95... ONLY DOS, possibly W3.1/NT3.5.... fyi...
