Hi. I am just getting going...
I installed the DB but can't seem to start
the database service on boot (and i have
turned it on). It just hangs. And, when I
try to create a new repository, I am told that
my database is not recognized in the TNSNames
file. How do i get oracle to recognize the
database I created??

Thanks in advance.

ok. I have some more information here.
It seems that my tnsnames file is completely
empty. did I do something wrong on install?

Perhaps you somehow skipped Net8 configuration. If you server is some flavor of windows you should have a Net8 Configuration Assistance under the Oracle->Network Administration menu under your Start->Programs menu. You could try running that (Choose the Configure Listener option).

I am sure there is something similar for UNIX, but I don't know what it is.

Hi.
I am in Win2000. Yes, I messed around
with Net8 but that didn't do the trick.
I think i found what is wrong - it says
in my services area that the Management
Server is not started. When I try to start
it i am told that my attempt was not successful
and that no error was returned. How do
I get my management server going?

Thanks again.

Hi,

Before you start the management server you have to create a repository from enterprise manager- configuration assistant,

For creating a repository you need to specify a database for that repository.
Make sure that after creating the database you have configured it with NEt8 configuration assistant.

Hope this answeres your problem

Ah. The repository did the trick!
Before it wasn't loading so i did a reinstall
and, for some reason, it worked this time around.
Thanks!!
