Hi All,

HP 725c computer running winxp home 2.0ghz 512 DDR ram. In computer managment, under event viewer/system I get constant errors with the source being "Service control manager" Under description I get the following...

"The Messenger service terminated with service-specific error 2136 (0x858)"

Anybody ever heard of this?

You should check error details. Try to switch service status between auto and manual.

"A general failure occurred in the network hardware. This problem may be due to a hardware conflict and could have
been generated by any number of other Server service commands (for example, Replicator)."

Translation: It was unable to send a message with either the Alerter Service or a NET SEND command.

You might first try to track down why your machine is attempting to NET SEND so many messages. As to the cause of the problem, either a dependent Service is not running, you are not connected to a Network, or you do not have the Netbios transport loaded.
