Hello,

Last time I reooted my Netware 6.0 server, after it came back up, it displayed an unusual prompt. Instead of displaying SERVERNAME: it displays SERVERNAME <1>:
Can anyone tell me what the <1> designates?
Thanks,
Craig Barroll

This means that the server has experienced an error - this error is called an abend (I call it a soft abend) and although this type of abend has not crashed the server, it would be worth checking the relevant logfiles to see why this has occurred.

Although I try not to compare Novell and Microsoft on a regular basis ;) a soft abend is similar to a GPF in Windows. What I would call a hard abend is when the server crashes as a result, similar to a BSOD in Windows (although you always get loads more BSOD's in Windows lol)

Did you notice any critical errors on the server console during bootup? If you have the console logger loaded, it might be worth checking that logfile for errors, and also check SYS:SYSTEM\ABEND.LOG and post any errors in there too.

Also, the number can increment depending on how many soft abends the server has experienced....
