Guys,

What do you recommend in order to maximize the performance of raid 10, should we set the maximum strip size to 1024k? and other settings to tweak...since we will use it on Windows 2003 SP2 R2 Enterprise and MSSQL 2005 SP2 Enterprise (32-bit) and also DiskPart for partition alignment.

Stripe size as discussed in you other thread

The most important setting.... Write policy=Write back , (if you have a battery on the raid adapter).

Keep Wrthru for Bad Battery Backup Unit (BBU) checked, unless you have an external, overly sized battery backup unit, which you will be religiously maintaining the batteries for. On all my systems I have over sized external BBUs, so I uncheck it....I'm not religious except in reference to the battery Gods

Access Policy, leave it RW (read and write)

Leave Read Policy as Normal, I tried the other setting through the years, only gains performance under very limited circumstances with the other choices, it is a toggle choice, no damage will occur and can be switched back.

Drive cache, enabled can cause data loss with some make/model drives, especially without an external battery backup. Leave it be. If your brave, test it, again its a toggle.

IO Policy, generally slows things down with choices other then direct, again a toggle, can always be switched back

Leave Disable BGI as no

Once you have Windows installed, google windows 2003 performance tuning guide . Microsoft and IBM have guides, useful for registry tweeks. I document EVERY registry change I make, so I or someone else can reverse them. Do not get carried away making registry changes.

Review your Anti Virus software suppliers/Microsofts recommendations for which files in the OS/programs to exclude from AV scanning.
