I noticed this morning that the tape did not eject after a backup, so I tried to logon to the machine. The logon stopped and all I have is screen with my mouse curser that I can move and ctrl alt delete does not work. Employees can't connect to printers, but the mail server is still working. I am able to connect to the event viewer. I don't want to just turn the server off. Any and all help please.
Got Event ID: 9 in the event log.

Can't you remotely restart the server? Is your power switch configured to shutdown rather than just power down? You may find that powering the server off is your only option unless it recovers itself.

A hard reboot seems to have solved the problem.
