We have a Windows 2000 Server that is basically running the whole show, DNS, Exhange, SQL, Norton AV, Proxy to wireless ethernet, etc... Everything seems to be good to go except:

I am unable to browse the internet, and am no longer receiving updates to Norton Antivirus. The first time I noticed the problem was after installation of SQL Server SP3, but that may or may not be part of the problem. I just took on this job 1 month ago, so it may have been a previous issue as well.

1) I can ping to and from the server
2) I can tracert from the server
3) NSLOOKUP tek-tips.com gets:

*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.10.10: Non-existent domain
Server: arbuckle.brightok.net
Address: 206.30.97.15

Name: tek-tips.com
Address: 216.45.19.33

4) ipconfig /all gets:

Can someone please give me some ideas or an explanation? Thanks very much in advance!

DNS PROBLEM ! Sounds like this is what you should have ,
You need to have the first card have a default gateway wich would be the ip address of the second card !
As well as have the Dns server of the second card for the first card as well . Being that i personaly see that you do not have DCHP ENABLED on either card you have a static route check your static route in routing and ras ! and see if that route looks like what you see here I am also going to guess that interface #1 is your internal card and interface #2 is your external card ! are you using this box ( the server) as a router as well ?

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.10
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.0.5
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 206.30.97.15
Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.10

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.0.5
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . .VALI . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.0.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 206.30.97.15

should work !
with out that default gatewar that could be the problem and dns as well Try it see if it works !
are you running routing and ras on this box as well as everything you have listed ? Anthony Cabanas

Question for you ....what king of top level domain is .qlco?
Ive never heard of that.

Are you able to get to an external site in IE using the ip?

Does sound like a dns problem since nslookup found the ip for "tek-tips.com"...but also sounds really familiar to a routing problem i had in the past.
