Hi everyone-

Here it the scoop:

I have a windows 2003 server running exchange. Some how one of the raid drives (raid 5) failed causing the exchange DB to dismount. I have rebooted the server, in the reboot process the server gets stuck in the "applying computer settings". If I remove the patch cable from the back of the nic and reboot the server again, then I'm able to logon locally without any problems, but still unable to mount the exchange data store.

What gives? Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks for your help.

There is FAR more than that going on if a single drive in a RAID 5 array caused a database dismount. Assuming hardware RAID, the OS and Exchange would not know that a drive failed in a correctly configured array. There would be no impact to either, except for degraded performance while a rebuild was taking place.

What do the logs say?

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

I was able to logon into the server, by disabling the exchange services. Information Store wont load. And that what was causing the boot delay.

Now I need to figure out what's going on witht the exchange DB. Looks like somehow the DB got corrupted when one of the drives went down. I guess I'll run a Defrag and repair to see if fixes the issue.
