Server SLOW

Hi,

I was running IIS on a windows XP pro box so I decided to upgrade to windows 2003. Now there are major lags and run slow. Its sporadic. Someties it pings fast,other times real slow


The old server (XP) was a 2.8 2 gigs of RAM and it never lagged and was fast.

New server (Windows 2003) is a 3.4 dual core 4 gigs of ram.

There are many possible reasons why your new server is not running as fast but you haven't really indicated (except for the network) where there is slowness. A couple of things to look at;

Machine in General
------------------
- Is your server at SP1 and fully patched?
- Have you installed Windows 2003 specific drivers
- Have you checked your event logs to look for errors related to the disk, network etc.
- What components are installed on this server?

Network
-------
- Check to ensure you have the latest NIC drivers installed
- Check your switch port to ensure that the speed is synchronized with that of your server NIC (either Auto/Auto or 100/100MBps or 1GBps Full Duplex)
- Do you have a DNS server configured on your network and does it have the correct info regarding your server

This is just a few things to look into. Others will chime in on their thoughts.

IIS, ASP.net Php

Using a router with port forwarding
- Do you have a DNS server configured on your network and does it have the correct info regarding your server
No, using port 80 with IIS
