Hi,
Not sure if this is the place to post this question but I am going to try anyway. I would like to use a server-side include to create a header-and-links file and include this file in all of my linked pages in my website. I understand that I have to use a .shtml extension in order to link this file. My problem is that I would like to develop this on my own computer before having to pay for a web hosted site. Is there a way on my own personal computer for it to recognize what a .shtml file is so I can test doing server-side includes?

Thanks in advance...

Hi

Interpreting SSI is usually the web server's job. Please repeat this question in you web server's forum.

For example Apache ( forum65 ) can execute SSI and is easy to configure it. But note that are minor differences between implementations, so better install the same web server at home as your future hosting company has.

Feherke.

Thanks. I do not see a web server's forum...

What do you mean, "do not see" ? I already showed one : forum65 ( Apache ).

Or you can just search the Tek-Tips forums for "web server" :

Or you can just browse the Tek-Tips forums at "Web Servers Category" :
