Hi-

This might be a dumb question but i am new to this.

I want to setup WIN2K Advanced Server for only 4 things.

IIS - WEB to host a Internet site with shopping cart
3rd Party FTP
3rd Party Mail Server not exchange
File Server - the computer that is getting WIN2K Adv. Server has a few large hard drives and i was told to make it a file server - by this i mean that they want one be able to map drives from their computer that folder on the server. i know how to do this on win2k and XP so i guess its the same with the server right?

So my question is do i need to setup everything that the configure your server window tells mt to setup like Active Dir and so on?

Thanks for taking the time to look at this and hopefully help me.

I would not set up Active Directory if that is going to be your only server. In order to run AD, you need to set up DNS. And if that is your only server, you will be running:
1) DNS
2) IIS
3) FTP
4) 3rd party mail server
Depending on the server, it may or may not be able to handle all the processes and utilization. But the main point is, I wouldn't use ADS if that is the only server you're running.
