Hi,

Just set up a root server and need to install some add on components - to be honest out of my depth. Used to run a server in the past. But now it comes to it again i seem to have forgetten everything I learned!

I expected a steep learning curve - but not quite the cliff face I'm finding it!

Can anyone point me at some good websites to help me get to grips with it. Offer me some intense tuition, or even do it for me for a modest fee...? Pretty desperate here!

I am told I need to to install the following for the site thats waiting to be uploaded...

---AJAX 2.0

Video Processing Component
FFmpeg FFmpeg-PHP Mplayer + Mencoder flv2tool Libogg + Libvorbis LAME MP3 Encoder
Image Processing Components

Imagemagick
GD Library 2.0

Not that I'm trying to get in the way of a business deal, but would you be comfortable downloading and installing Ubuntu or Kubuntu?

From there, you could
apt-get update
apt-cache search program-name
apt-get install program-name

I know several people will say "you have to have sudo before those commands", but I always change the root password first...

sudo passwd root

Mark - thanks. Perhaps to much of a learning curve for me and I have some time constraints...

Have you tried using Webmin? It sure takes the pain away on setting up users, apache, sendmail etc.
