I have two Windows 2003 servers on which the Server service simply will not start. It is set to automatically start using the Local System account. Other Win2K3 servers we have work perfectly fine.

When I try to manually start the service, I receive Error 5: Access Denied.

In Event Viewer I see an error that the service failed to start because the account being used is different than the account used for other services in the same process. I have no idea what other services are in the same process as this one.

The Workstation and Net Logon accounts are all using Local System account and are started. Most of the services use the Local System account in fact. A few use the Local Service account.

Help?!?!

Thanks!

When did they stop?
Have you checked what the setting is for the other servers that do work? What happens when you reboot?
