I recently rebuilt a server in my domain. Unfortunatley I did not actually remove that server from AD. I turned off the server and reformatted and re-installed Win 2K server. I then gave the server a new name and re-joined the domain. The system works fine excopt that all servers now have a event log that replication to the old server name is no onger working. The old server name is located within AD and AD will not allow me to delete. Is there a way to get rid of the reference to this old server name. The new server is up and running and in production so rebuilding is not an option. Thanks in advance.

I had the same type of issue once when a a domain controller went tits up and I had to rebuild it. Problem is that I had no chance to run DC promo before it died so it was stuck out there in active directory. I believe you can use ntdsutil.exe to go in and clean it up. Thats what I did and I assume that it would work for a member server as well but I have never tried. go here and scroll down to the metadata cleanup commands.
