can anyone please tell me how to measure the server rack? say I have the following:
# 78” tall, 24” wide, 40” deep external dimensions
# 36" adjustable depth internal post dimensions
racks are typically measured/specified in U's, or units. Most name brand racks have numbered rails to show you how many U's it is, and to help with installation of equipment. A rack as big as the one you mention is likely a 42u rack. A rack is 1 3/4" high. Rack mounted equipment will also be specified in units, which makes measuring that much easier. For more info, see
That's hard to say, since those are probably external dimesions. The actual number of rack units it supports would be based on the total length of the rails (in other words, the internal height).
The rail that has all the screw holes on it is where you'll be mounting your equipment. Most of the bigger players have numbers on those rails. If they don't just measure from the top of one of the rails to the bottom, and divide the total inches by 1.75. This will tell you the number or rack spaces.
