Server Page Fault Error

I noticed this morning that our system was running slower than normal. This usually occurs when we run the MRP Regen process past 8 am in the mornings and users are signing on. We are running Citrix on NT Terminal Server, no local clients are used.
In looking at the task manager page to see what was up, I noticed under page faults, that process was a whopping
amount over 2,110,000. The next nearest process amount was less than 72,000.
Can anybody explain this and perhaps suggest a remedy?

I know that my production coordinator runs the regen proces befor eeveryone comes in or it is SLOW. Sorry - that's all I've got! But I will be interested to hear any answers.

Christine

Please clarify what you mean by "under page faults". I am not familiar with this when you are in task manager. Is this a windows XP or a Windows 2000 workstation?

Also, a sidebar on MRP Regen. If you run a file validation report on the IMITMIDX, IMINVLOC, and BMPRDSTR, then rebuild basically every single file that the MRP regen looks at, you can see incredible results in your regen speed. I had a client do this once and the regen went from 16 mours to 30 minutes.

Clarification on above -- when you run the file validation reports, you must take corrective action and see to it that the reports are eventually run with no errors returned.

I am not sure if the file validation or the rebuilds is what helped the MRP regen speed, but I was amazed.

Can you please give me more details on these two processes? Sounds interesting!

Is this something you would have to do each time before you do a regen, or just once? Is this something that you have to be the sole user while doing it?

Christine

Under System Manager, Maintain, System Utilities, you will find the file validation reports. These reports will return a list of errors in your data. For example, lets say you applied a primary vendor to a bunch of part numbers, then you later wnet in a deleted the vendor record. The file validation report would report an error "Primary Vendor not on file".

On the file rebuilds, also under system manager, processes, you will see the rebuilds. The negative is you must basically have everyone out of the system in order to do this.

Under the Process Tab in Task Manager. XP or W2K? We are still in the distant past with NT except that we run Macoal and SQL on W2K Advanced Servers. Since we are Citrix based, all users access the system through a NT Term. Server. We have over 2 gig of RAM on our Metaframe server, but the OS rarely uses it all and is hitting the page file long before it gets even close.

This may be more of a Microsoft problem than an inefficient Macola process. Reducing the page file produces other undesirable effects.

I would like to explore the other solution you offered. I could not find anything on the Macoal site about the page file issue. I thought moving to SQL was suppose to speed data access up but that turned out to be incorrect.

Please clarify. I never see anything called "Page Faults" under task manager. The processes tab normally has a file name. What file name exactly are you referring to here?

After opening the Task Manager, go into view and select columns. You can add Page Faults to the Task Manager screen from there.
