Server Name problem

I have a SCO Unix 5.0.5. My server's name WAS "SRV1". I changed the tcp/ip name to "SRV2" using SCOAdmin and I also changed the node name to "SRV2" using uname command. The login prompt also states "SRV2" now. But my /var/adm/syslog still states "SRV1" until now. How and where do I change this so that syslog will recognize the "SRV2" name.

Thanks.

You don't change syslog you change the configuration on the process that is writing the entry to syslog.

I'm having this problem too actually after using the same method to change the hostame.

All messages including boot messages are logged using the original host name of the system. There is no mention of host names in /etc/syslog.conf, so I... oh. Somehow I've fixed it.

I searched the files in /etc for any occurrence of the old host name and found it in /etc/systemid. I changed it there, killed syslogd and restarted it, and the host name changed.

To double-check I changed the name in /etc/systemid to something completely different and restarted syslogd again but it had no effect, so perhaps just killing syslogd and restarting it is enough to pick up the new host name? Beats me.

Annihilannic.

systemid is set or rewritten from the "NODE" value in /etc/conf/cf.d/stune during a kernel rebuild.

uname -S will change this value.
to be safe or complete a system reboot will reinitialize all daemons that care about the system or node name.

Thanks for the replies.

I checked my /etc/systemid and it was already "SRV2". Even the NODE parameter in the stune file contained the "SRV2".

I know the missing ingredient ---> link_unix!!!
I did a kernel rebuild, rebooted the system, and (viola!), my syslog now recognizes the "SRV2" name.

Thanks for all the help.
