Hello All
I am having a windows 2000 server and apache 2.0.4.

when I click mycomputer and properties and network identification there are 2 names one is Full computer name which is machinename.xyz.com and domain which is xyz.com. also below it states identification of the computer cannot be changed bcoz computer is a domain controller.

now to apache part
After starting apache and I am pointing my browser to and and getting apache running succesfully.
I feel that machinename.xyz.com is not appropriate and want to change to intranet.mycompany.com.

when I go to httpd.conf file and change the servername which is presently machinename.xyz.com to intranet.mycompany.com I am not able to get that working and getting "page cud not be displayed". How do I get it working.

My guess is nothing to deal with httpd.conf file and it is all in W2K server settings..am I correct?

Did I screw anything up when installing my W2K server ..

regards
MP

There must be a dns record for the name you put as the ServerName. You can buy your own domain name from a registrar such as or others. I would avoid Network Solutions. Once you own your own domain name, you just point it to your ip address and apache will work like a charm again.

It's not Apache that needs to resolve the ServerName, but rather the client.

On your workstation, add an entry to the "hosts" file for intranet.mycompany.com so your machine can resolve the domain name. ______________________________________________________________________
