When I logon to the my local server I get the following msg below.

I want to take out the server name so it does not show the name of the server.
Can I be directed to the location of the file so I can change it?

I agree with SLT589 on altering (or creating
as it seems here) the telnetd file. While
you're inserting the BANNER="" though you may
wish to consider whether you want to insert a Policies of Use statement (needed in court to prosecute hacker exploits if ever needed).

Finally, why are you working to hide the system name? Certainly its stimple enough once logged in to learn the same information without any special privs. (read - if you're trying to hide the system name then this isn't going to do it for you).

No. It's /etc/motd. /etc/default/telnetd's messages (or lack of) come before you get the prompt login:

From what copperslim wrote, the name is coming up after the user types in username and password.

Hi copperslim

Just edit the file /etc/motd to remove the hostname.
