Server monitoring software

What is the "best" free monitoring software to use when to check Windows 2003 Servers in WAN environment. Just basic things like ping, disk space, services etc. Must have SMTP features.

You could do just about everything with Perfmon.

We set up a Nagios server to do the monitoring on our servers. Of course we have it running on a linux server so the whole thing was free.
