Hi all,

I have two Dell Poweregde 2900 servers. Each server has BACs teaming both network cards.

OK today fitted a new shelf in the 19" rack that our two server are in.

When I pulled the rack out my users complained they lost connection. Checked the cable and nothing all connections still good. Eventlog had one of the network interfaces dropping off but the other network card should have taken any load. I also had 1058 and 1030 errors in the eventlog. I ran dfsutil /PurgeMupCache and the 1058 and 1030 errors stopped.

I'm still getting intermittent connection drops and it's not everyone. Some users are still connected while other lose the connection. There doesn't appear to be a pattern to the suers that get dropped. There is nothing in the eventlog for any network drop off or anything else.

I'm running a continual ping on the server name and on the last run it only had 2% dropped connections. It's been like this all day since the new shelf was installed.

Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing the problems.

Many thanks

Robert

Since the problem started when you were working in the rack it would seem to be a physical problem so I'd go back and check all cables (perhaps replace them) and ensure that everything close to the shelf you installed is not a problem. If the NICs are not on the motherboard perhaps they could be loose and the moving around has worstened the connection?

Is your switch in the same rack? If so could this perhaps be the source of the issue since it's affecting random users?

Thanks Steve,

Cables were tested and OK. I couldn't see the internet from that server (no proxy connected).

I had a continual ping running to check the connection it only dropped the occasionally.

All sort of settles down after 3pm(ish) and has been fine since.

Thanks again

Robert
