We have Symantec AV Corporate ed. 9, and run it on the server in each of our two offices. The offices have a VPN connection. One server quit doing updates a couple months ago, about the time we changed DSL providers, which undid the VPN. I have the VPN working again, now. The console shows both servers, but I can only unlock the one in this office. The other gives the response: "Can't communicate with server group..." regardless of which server I'm logged onto.
I tried several things suggested by Symantec, but none worked. When I had the program discover the server, it found it, but it was shown as disabled. I can't find any place that will let me enable it.
I suspect the two servers communicated via the VPN (since they both show in the console) until it was disrupted, and can't re-establish the communication.
Anyone know of something to try. I really don't want to uninstall and reinstall, since it usually requires restarts, and I don't want to disrupt the business by restarting the server. TIA

I had a problem similar to that on a PC here. We run Version of 8 of Symantec though (I think).
Check the event log on the server. It will probably say something like "Symantec AntiVirus failed to start. Virus definition file is invalid".
Basically, the virus defs are corrupted. The virus defs
must be manually rolled back. Here is the link:

Thanks for the response, but I had already checked the event log in an effort to find out what happened and when. There was nothing in the event log related to Symantec. Also, since it stopped updating at that point, there are no corrupt virus defs to roll back.

Also, I read the Symantec log, and it looks like it's been downloading def files just fine, and recording when users log on and off the network. But it is not giving those definitions to the computers, nor showing them in the symantec control panel. Everything is still saying the most recent update is Feb.14.
