HELP !!!
The server keeps ignoring the .htaccess files !
even with a <Directory> AllowOverride all </Directory>
in the httpd.conf !!
What does your .htaccess look like? A working example we've got an an intranet server here has AuthType, AuthName, AuthUserFile, and "require valid-user" directives in them. AllowOverride in the httpd.conf <Directory> directive is set to "AuthConfig".

HTH.

Thank you Very much for your response !
i already have solved the mystery...
when i changed the httpd.conf, i couldn't see anything happening on the server, so i decided to restart apache...
good idea ... now it (surprisingly) actually works !

Thank you !

<grin> Wish I'd thought of that in the first place! Thanks for letting us know how you resolved the problem :)
