Server IP address is static, but the GUI says Automatic

Hi all,

I have a 2003 server (R2, x64) which has 3 static addresses assigned to it (for use as an Exchange 2007 CLient Access / Hub Transport server). ipconfig /all shows the addresses to be statically assigned and all DNS, Gateway information to be correct. Going into the GUI however, shows the standard "automatic" options with nothing in the additional config. At first I thought, no big deal as the server was working fine. Recently, however, the server appears to have "forgotten" its DNS servers which is a bit of an issue as it can't then see a GC (thus stopping any users from authenticating). The server has 2 broadcom nics (its a Dell P/E 2950). The 2nd nic shows the same issues, with the added "bonus" of any static gateway set on the 2nd appearing on the first (which stays even if the 2nd nic is disabled, until manually deleted from the routing table).

I have tried updating the network card drivers ot the latest version, but that doesn't seem to fix the problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers in advance,

Magz...

Sounds odd. Have you tried rebuilding the IP stack using NETSH? Keep in mind, if you do this, the cards will be set back to default, so they will get DHCP address, etc. It might help you get past this problem though. Here is the command: netsh int ip reset c:\iplog.txt

Tried that command. Didn't fix this issue. Also didn't seem to reset the network card settings. Here is the log in case it helps:

Interesting. Have you tried deleting the network connections, removing the network cards, and then reinstalling them? I know you said you updated your drivers, but it sounds like you need a totally fresh start.

Sorry if this doesn't help but:

When you say static do you mean you manually configured IP setting (i.e. IP/Gateway/DNS?)

If you used MAC<=>IP in your DHCP server make sure that the address wasn't used for another PC.

If you are getting an Automatic Private Address then check that the DHCP server is accessible. Assign an unused IP manually and ping the server. Also check that DHCP is running properly.
