I am currently running netware 5.1, and i have just purchased a new server on which i will be installing 5.1 as well. I would appreciate any info or tips on carrying out a hardware upgrade, installation of Netware on the new server and migrating the NDS tree.

Also does anyone know what 'sms compliant software' is? I was told to make a 'sms compliant' backup of the server.

Ring any bells??????

thanks in advance....

Hi -
DSMAINT a novell utility is the one to use for H/W upgrade problem - details can be found on Novell's support web page
I think you can use any propriety backup software suchas "arcserve" for the sms compiant backup - but I'm not certain

Hope this helps

Dave

As Dave said, your backup software should already support SMS, so all you have to do is to ensure it is definately configured correctly on your server.

To do this, check out the following Novell TID. In particular, look at the LOAD SMDR NEW configuration detail.

Also ensure that your TSA agents are loaded. These should be TSA500.NLM and TSANDS.NLM

Post back if you get any problems. -----------------------------------------------------

Thanks for that. I am not a very technical person... so i really appreciate the help. Another question,

Does anyone know if Microsoft Backup V. 4.10 is SMS compliant? And would it have to be installed on the server or can i create a backup from just a PC?

I don't think you can install Microsoft Backup on the server, and you probably won't have the correct agents needed to back it up properly from a PC.

I would suggest that it wouldn't be a good idea to use that product. -----------------------------------------------------

Well, I was not planning to do the backup from the server. I was thinking of installing it on a PC. I've done a backup from a PC before. Its just that now i'm gonna restore it on the server, i need to know if it is sms compliant....

Thanks for your suggestion anyways... i'll keep it in mind. =)
