I have replace a 2003 server with 2008 server including hardware swap but having problem with the attached storage. Users are getting disconnected from their network drives mapped to the MSA connected to the server. When I check the server OS the drive is showing as unvailable and cannot browse the drive. Drive will become available after a few minutes or a reboot of the server. I have checked all the HP diagnostics on the server and cannot find any errors. Updated the firmware and drivers for external storage and controller but still no luck.

Are these dynamic disks per chance. Try running DMDIAG if that's the case to ensure that Windows has properly enumerated the disks.

Yes the HP Storageworks MSA is showing as dymanic disk in Disk Management in server console. Cant convert back to basic again?

Why would the combination of Windows 2008 R2 Server and dynamic disks causes the drive to drop?

It's nothing really to do with the OS/dynamic disk combo, but I have seen this past. Usually running dmdiag once would do the trick, but if you keep seeing this happening, it could be an issue related to your HBAs, driver configs, etc. In our case it ended up being a motherboard incompatibility that caused interrupt issues on our HBAs

I have used the same same hardware with MS 2008 R2 server install. Never had problems with MS 2003 server. For some reason the HP StorageWorks ended up as dymanic rather than basic.

I have also picked that using RDC to the server causes the server to hang when trying to access the MSA connected to the server.
