Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew if there what the difference was in functionality between the workgroup engine and the server engine?

I suppose what I'm asking is - would it be possible to take an app developed in an environment that had the workgroup engine and be able to run the thing on a server engine environment.

Thanks,
Tom

From an app perspective, they are the same. I regularly develop against the server engine and deploy against the WGE.
As far as pure functionality, the main difference is that the WGE uses and creates locator files while the server engine only abides by them (if it exists, the server engine will use it). The Server also run natively as a service while the WGE needs a helper app to run as a service.

Thanks Mirtheil. I really appreciate your advice. I saw that the v9 price for the WGE was only $25. I am going to get it for my own PC at home.

It's such a good price I was wondering if it came with all the bells and whistles that the server engine has with the only difference being that one is a server engine and the other a work group engine.
