I just wanted to let everyone know of a bug I believe to have discovered in Server Edition R9.1 SP1 where if a user attempts to initiate their mailbox and they enter in a voicemail password that does meet the minimum requirements it crashes the system and restarts the IP Office service on the server. I have a customer who's phones have gone into discover multiple times over the past few days and each time I see this in Sys Mon.

Be aware of this awesome new feature in 9.1!

Follow up:

From the monitor trace it appeared to me that someone was trying to enter in a new password. After speaking directly with the user this is what happened. User has not setup their VM password yet, no source number in the user tab so that they are required to enter in a password from their deskphone, user receives voicemail, presses their message key to listen to voicemail via visual voice, selects listen, IP Office service restarts. Users that have setup their password do not cause the service to restart when accessing VM.

Please tell me you've started a ticket with Avaya so they are aware of the issue. :)

Interesting IPOtech

I have a SE system that has has reset a few times for no reason on 9.1 and 9.1 sp1
I am going to try to duplicate this. Thanks

It's only dialtone!!!

I have entered a voicemail password in for every user and the system hasnt rebooted since. I'm in a predicament because Avaya needs an additional vm trace in order to determine the root cause but I dont really want to remove any users vm passwords and have the system crash again in the middle of the day. I have tried duplicating the crash after hours and in my lab but both were unsuccessful.

We had a couple of reboots on Friday, but cannot replicate them. I've sent a couple of core dumps to Avaya.

Are you seeing the same thing in the system monitor as I have posted initially?

Yep, same thing. the warning about Vmail is interesting.

Did you find that there was a specific action that triggered the crash? Like attempting to access voicemail without a password set? Or would it just happen randomly if you had users in the system without voicemail passwords set?

Avaya has provided me with a patch which I will be installing this evening but they have not yet provided me details on the root cause or anything.

Haven't been able to find that out. Can't trigger it either - tried all sorts of permutations and scenarios.

I got the patch, and loaded it up - server(s) and expansion units. Did it yesterday afternoon at about 4pm est.

We cutover tonight and go live tomorrow. :)

Having a 500V2 9.1 SP1 with the same issue. The customer was setting up a user VM putting in the password change when the system rebooted. Does anyone know if Avaya has a patch yet for this?
Mike

They do, I don't believe it is publicly posted for download but if you open a SR I'm sure they will provide it to you.

After loading the patch, cutting the system over and going live with 200+ IP stations - we haven't had a reboot.
* 2nd day live now. No spontaneous reboots. Looks like it's OK.
