In case server crashes, is it possible to recover the database to the point of failure with the help of log files? In that case, if the last transaction caused the db crash, is it possible to recover the db till the previous transaction(or the time upto that).

Thanks in Advance,
Manohar

Yes it is. It is called "Point in Time" recovery.

Thanks

More specifically, you must have at least a FULL backup. You would then do a transaction log backup, RESTORE the full backup using the WITH NORECOVERY option. Then restore the log using the WITH STOPAT option.

Refer to the BOL for more information.

Yes, I understand this. But can I give a time, which is before the last transaction time, before crash.

Thanks,
Manohar

Yes, it's part of the STOPAT option. Refer to the BOL for more information.
