Hey all, I have one Mac user who can't keep his files on the server (2003 R2). If his files stay on the server long enough the file format will be changed rendering his files unreadable. He will put some files on the server and show me the next time it happens; hopefully I can see what's going on and get it fixed. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,

Joe B

I haven't don much with MAC but the files shouldn't change. The only way this would happen is if someone tried to open one and was asked what program to use. Also check the event logs.

Hi dberg35, Eric saves his files onto the server and if he opens them again in just a few days they're fine. But if he opens them again after a month or more they usually have changed format and he's unable to open them. I don't know what program he uses to view the file information but he can see that the file has been changed. When he gets prompted for the program to open the file he can choose the program that created the file but that program is unable to read the file.

Thanks,

Joe B

Well I would say do a hard drive diag it is possible there might be a failing drive.

Hmmm......
Side effect of AntiVirus or Backup software perhaps?

dberg, all systems on the server are fine. I'm running a RAID 10 and the drives all look good in the array.

MakeItSo (do you have a shiny head too?) Antivirus shows clean BUT I do run a full backup of the server every day. I never thought about the backup being the culprit. I'll have to check into that one.

Thanks,

Joe B

I don't have a shiny head but I DO love tea.
