Hi,

Try booting off the AIX433 installation cd. If your boot sequence is not set to boot off cd, you may have to hit the (5 key) a few times when the box shows this below
RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000
RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000
RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000
RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000RS/6000

When presented with the first menu choose "Maintenance mode for system recover". It should be straight forward from there.

I will try this way
But may i have the question about create mksysb
I used smit mksysb to create my backup tape
with the option below:
create MAP files = no
EXCLUDE files = no
List file as ... = no
General new / image.data file = yes
EXPAND /tmp ... = YES
Disable software ... = No
Number of BLOCK ... = 512

Is it something right or wrong for make the backup tape to do backup system as my project is

Thank you,
Regard,

and with the way i try to restore the backup system like above
what is the potion of the key i have to turn
unclock or clock

thanks,

Yes, if you make a mksysb on the old server with the setting as you chose, you should be able to restore the makesysb to your new server. Providing you restore to hdisks of the same size or larger.

I am not familiar with a key that needs to be turned on the F50. To get into maintenance mode you must startup your powerpc with the cd inserted, and hit the "5" key quite a few times. This is what takes you into the maintenance menus.

Thanks you very much
I do the new system with CD and it install OS into a new box after it done I tried using a tape backup to run the restore but no luck
it said some error .....

the currently, on a new system just one hard disk hdisk0 active the other still .... hide ( system is not see them)

So, do i have to configure the new system have the sam hdisk activated before i run the tape backup again
or any idea

Thanks for your time
Regard,

Do i understand you correctly?

You installed the OS on the new box but from the cd. When this finished you tried to restore the makesysb.

What I had in mind was to only boot into maintenance mode from the cd. And then to restore from the makesysb.
What error did you get when you ran the restore?

Hi Zahier
I boot the new system with the mksysb tape
The first screen is asked me about type of terminal then I enter ibm3151 and it show the menu
I select the Backup System ...
and it run something from the tape drive (about ... 3 hours)
and i got the error message like this

1800-106 An Error occured:

0503-003 installp: the specified device /dev/rmt0 (is tape drive)is not a valid device or file.
0851-005 install_assist The following packages could not be install from device /dev/rmt0
bos.sysmgt.sysbr
0851-002 The system can not be backup unstill the bos.sysmgt.sysbr package install

this is a error message i got when i ran the mksysb tape for backup system

any idea or suggestion will be helpfull and very much appreciated
