G'day,
Checking the log files is the first thing to do. Also, if you have installed any new software (including any hotfixes etc), you should consider uninstalling them to see if that fixes the problem. Also check the time the server shutdowns. is it consistent. If so there may be a scheduled service that is causing the server to shutdown (maybe antivirus or autoupdate etc).
Or maybe someone installed a program which you don't know that automatically shuts down your computer at a specific moment. To see, go to your Task Manager and click on the "Process" tab to see if there is a name that you might think is related to shutting down the pc. If everything seems right to you, then go to Control Panel and choose "Power Options". In there, look to see the if options are causing the problem.
Whatever you do, be nice to to people who helps you or try their best to make things better for you.
Actually, I have installed an antivirus software on that server. I guess it would be better if I uninstall that antivirus first then i'll wait for changes.
2 things - firstly I had AVG antivirus installed on my server, the first night it ran a scheduled full scan guess what happened...it rebooted itself. Only event was 'Server shutdown at 6:00am was unexpected'. I cancelled the scheduled scan and (touch wood) all is OK now.
The other point is - is this a Dell server? There are enormous problems with some Dell servers shutting themselves down. See the Dell Poweredge forum for details.
