I've recently added a Windows Server 2008 server to our small business network. Some of the client machines have begun experiencing problems with Save As if the Server 08 is powered down. Has anyone run into this problem before?

Please provide a little more detail about this issue. What is the role of the Window Server 2008 machine. What and where are the clients trying to save when they experience this issue. What specifically is the problem they are having when using the 'Save As...' feature?

I think I figured out what's going on. Our network contains a number of mapped shares including a share on Server 2008. When that server is powered down for the weekend and a user on the network attempts to Save or Save As to another share, Windows searches for the missing share and times out, thus causing the user to believe that Save or Save As doesn't function. I have yet to understand why Server 08 has such a powerful effect on the network when powered down but I think I have a solution for that problem too.

Thanks for your assistance.
