Hi I have a new W2k3 server.
Running AD, and just used for file\print.About 10ish every morning it slows right down and then picks itself up and runs.
Windows Update isnt running AVisnt doing anything (scanning-downloading etc).
Any ideas?

Also at a seperate time all the PC's about 7 slowed right down and once rebooted where ok.

DNS can be the cause of brutal network slowdowns. I would say the first step is to make sure DNS is configured properly on the server, make sure the server is using itself as the primary DNS server, and make sure all clients are using the DC as the primary DNS server. It's a start. Let me know how you make out.

A couple of things you might want to check are:

Check the Event Log and the Scheduled Tasks of the server to see if anything is happening at that particular time.

Look at the pc's Event Logs and scheduled tasks to see if anything is happening or scheduled.

See if you can check your switch log to see if there are any errors happening there.

Good luck.

Make sure your antivirus isn't scanning any of the AD directories. I Seem to remember in 2000 it could cause corruption in the long term.

But if i'm wrong someone please correct me. ;)
