Hi I have a Seagate 120Gb drive formatted in FAT32, and I need to mount into a Windows Server 2003 Standard box. The only problem is that it's not being recognized in Device Manager, yet it's being recognized in the BIOS.

I know there are limitations in XP on formating FAT32 over 32Gb, but surely this doesn't affect Server 2003?

Anyway have any ideas.

Here is the URL which shows the max sizes which drives can be formatted per file system.

It appears that if the drive was formatted with Windows 2000 it must be less than 32 Gigs. As Windows 2003 is based on Windows 2000 I would assume that the same limitations apply.

From where was it formatted? Put it back there and then convert the drive to NTFS.

I hope you find this post helpful.

It doesn't matter under what OS you set up a FAT32 volume. It is limited to 32GB. As per Mark's advice convert to NTFS.

At considdering that FAT32 is all but dead why are you trying to use FAT32 is a server anyway?
