Hello there,

I am new to using server 2003 and have been thrown in at the deep end by my company and been made responsible for the running of the server etc....

our internet is running very slowly and the bloke who used to be the it support guy said it was because the internet went into the server and all other computers on thenetwork connected to the internet via the server.

how can i bypass the server so the internet is connected into the network switch and all the computers connect to the internet throught the switch?

i was told that i would have to change settings on the server etc but didnt get told what....I dont want to go experementing with settings incase I bugger somthing else up!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance,

Iain

First, i wouldn't change it. I would look at the server and see why it's going slow. The reason the machines connect to the server is because of security. This way you can block websites/downloads/etc. and also see what website are being visited. If you got rid of this type of setup you're basically taking a domain and make it into workgroup, so it speak.

Open the 'task manager' and see how high the CPU, RAM, and Network graphs show and let me know. Since it a small business server, Exchange has a nasty programing idea that if there is free RAM it will grab as much as it can and use it which can bring your sever to a crawl. See on the process tab if there are any things that really take a lot of CPU or RAM.

You can do something like this from a command line to restart exchange(store.exe):
Code:
net stop "Microsoft Exchange Information Store" /y
net start "Microsoft Exchange Information Store"
