We have Server 2003 running on an Pentium 4 D Cpu 3Ghz and 3 clients accessing a Visual Foxpro database from a client-server setup using a shared folder for the various tables.
I was noticing the other day that when someone tries to access data through the shared folder from the application, one of the cpu cores goes up to 100% for a few seconds and the server stops responding.
I have disabled all other services such as Coldfusion, anti-virus, web services - anything that I thought could interfere with the system.
I also disabled Raid and ran 2003 on a normal Sata drive thinking that the cheap raid controller was to blame, but the problem persists.
Whenever I try to copy a large directory from the server onto a client or vice-versa, the cpu core graph from task manager goes up slightly but never 'freezes'. It's only when the Visual Foxpro database is accessed that this happens.
We also re-indexed all tables but to no avail.
If anyone can recommend a solution I would be grateful.
